EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders is set to delay the release of Monday’s (April 22) episode on BBC iPlayer.

The BBC soap will make history tomorrow, as real-life footage will show Jamie Borthwick and Emma Barton, who play Jay and Honey, competing in the London Marathon, which took place today (April 21).

While EastEnders episodes usually drop on iPlayer at 6am on the day of transmission, tomorrow’s will now drop at 1pm due to the episode still being edited.

Confirming the change via its official Facebook account, the soap wrote: “Emma Barton and Jamie Borthwick have just completed the London Marathon for an upcoming storyline that will see their characters, Honey and Jay, take on the event in memory of their beloved Lola.

“As well as running on behalf of their chosen charities, Emma and Jamie run parts in character to film various scenes along the route.

“These scenes will be edited into the main show this evening, and viewers will be able to watch the special scenes tomorrow (Monday 22nd April) from 13:00 on BBC iPlayer and at 19:30 on BBC One.”

Jay and Honey will run the 26.2 mile-course in honour of brain tumour victims, including Jay’s late wife Lola Pearce-Brown.

Barton previously revealed that she planned to treat the filming of the Marathon scenes like “a live episode”.

“There’s three scenes – there is the start line, then Cutty Sark, then Tower Bridge and then the finish line,” she teased. “We’ve just got to really make sure we and the cameras all work together as well as we possibly can.”

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
