EastEnders has aired a proposal twist for Billy and Honey in a special London Marathon episode.
Monday’s (April 22) visit to Walford included scenes filmed yesterday at the actual marathon, where cast members Jamie Borthwick (Jay) and Emma Barton (Honey) competed.
The pair took breaks during their run to film special scenes, which were then inserted into Monday’s episode. This meant the episode was uploaded a bit later than usual on iPlayer.
Soap bosses hinted that Billy Mitchell would propose to Honey, but after a comedy of errors, Honey ended up popping the question.
At first, Billy was determined to surprise Honey with the proposal, but he had to rush Whitney, Zack and Britney to A&E after a bike crash and then he lost the ring.
When Billy finally found the ring box, a police officer arrested him because he though Billy was stealing the ring.
Billy eventually managed to talk his way out of trouble by explaining his family were running the London Marathon in honour of his late granddaughter Lola Pearce-Brown.
He rushed to meet Jay and Honey at the end of the race, but stopped short of proposing once he realised the ring wasn’t in his possession so must have been stolen.
Lola’s loved ones later gathered in the Square to scatter Lola’s ashes and then celebrate Jay and Honey’s tremendous effort in the marathon.
Everyone was surprised when TV footage of the race showed Honey proposing to Billy after crossing the finish line.
“Billy Mitchell, will you marry me?” Honey asked, with Billy answering with a chuckle: “Yeah, of course I will!”
Back in the pub, the happy couple announced to their loved ones that they were getting remarried and shared a lovely kiss.
