EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick has addressed Jay’s shocking baby story.

Jay was in the middle of training to run the London Marathon in Lola’s honour when his ex-lover Nadine Keller returned this week to announce she is pregnant.

Jay tried to keep this news from his family at first, only for Nadine to spoil that plan by revealing everything to Lola’s daughter Lexi.

Ahead of emotional scenes next week where Jay runs the marathon, EastEnders cast member Jamie Borthwick spoke out about the chaos in his character’s life.

“[It’s] a bit all over the place really, at this particular moment on screen, the other little blondie’s about to walk back in, the little Lola lookalike, the Kiwi, so it’s a little bit all over the place at the moment,” he said.

“The marathon has kind of taken a little bit of a back seat with all this what’s going on with Nadine’s return and the Oppenheimer bomb that she drops so the marathon’s kind of taken a bit of a back seat and as we get a bit further down the line and closer to marathon day, you will all understand why.”

As for the news that Jay is going to be a father, Jamie insisted his character would “step up to the responsibility that he doesn’t want”.

“We all know Jay, he’s a good man as Perry Fenwick calls him, a good man, so he certainly lives up to responsibility,” he said.

“I think he’s sucked into this dream, he buys into it, he absolutely has no reason to not believe so he’s all for it and he steps up when called upon because he is a good man.”

While Jay may have conflicted feelings over Nadine’s return to Walford, Jamie is thrilled to be working with co-star Jazzy Phoenix once again.

“Do you know what, from her first spell, she’s never left, I’ve seen her probably three times a week since she’s gone,” he revealed.

“We’re great, great pals and we’re really close so it was lovely to have her back in work, she’s a really sought-after member of the cast, she fits in great, everyone loves her, so it was really nice for us to do a bit of work together again, it was really nice having her back.”

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
