A showdown between Carter and John Paul has huge consequences.
Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Hollyoaks has confirmed a tragedy for Lucas and Dillon will take place at the Pride event.
The soap’s long-running ‘conversion therapy’ storyline will come to a head next week, as Hollyoaks High headteacher Carter faces comeuppance for trying to discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community.
The situation comes about as Pride celebrations are being planned in the village, with Ste encouraging his son Lucas to take part.
Hannah Ashworth arrives back in the village to see Carter pressuring Lucas to take part in an attack at the Pride festival, so she intervenes to encourage Lucas to speak to Ste about how he’s feeling.
Viewers may remember that Hannah left the village feeling guilty earlier this year after she’d taken a payoff from Carter.
Carter soon decides to change course, telling Lucas their attack on Pride is being called off. However, he insists on Lucas going with him to America to continue their ‘studies’.
Meanwhile, John Paul McQueen has caught wind of what Carter is up to and reports him to police. While DS Zoe Anderson explains that conversion therapy isn’t illegal, she promises her team will be vigilant during Pride.
With so much tension in the air, Lucas shares an emotional moment with Dillon where he tries to make amends.
Carter is already putting his escape plan into motion, telling his daughter Freya they will be going away to America with Lucas.
As Dillon tries to reason with Lucas over Carter’s plan, Hannah tells the adults that the Hollyoaks High headteacher is planning to skip town with Lucas and Freya.
The Pride celebration gets underway with nerves fraying everywhere, including John Paul noticing a suspicious man in the crowd.
Zoe is soon alarmed to see Dilly Harcourt getting an emergency phone call and rushing off while John Paul, Ste and Hannah try to find Lucas before it’s too late.
The trio do find Carter, with Ste and John Paul restraining him. Things spiral out of control from here as Dillon discovers an injured and unconscious Lucas in the Folly and cries out for help.
Back at the Pride festival, Carter has broken free and decides to air his hateful beliefs in a speech to the crowd. Kitty eventually interrupts him to deliver a message of tolerance and inclusivity.
As Carter rushes off to collect Freya to leave for America, he finally has to answer for all of his sins in a final face-off with John Paul.
These scenes will air next week.
