Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale‘s Rhona Goskirk has some huge news for her husband Marlon Dingle, which could tear their family apart in the new year.

The pair have had an unusual Christmas, to say the least, with Rhona’s ex-husband Gus Malcolms staying with them during the festivities.

Gus’s wife Lucy recently died after giving birth to their daughter Ivy – who was conceived using Rhona’s frozen embryo without her permission – and Gus is struggling to cope with his grief.

While Marlon gets frustrated with Gus at one point, Christmas Day goes mostly without a hitch, and they have an enjoyable time alongside Rhona’s mum Mary and kids April and Leo.

In scenes airing on Monday, January 1, Rhona and Marlon spend time looking after baby Ivy together while Gus is away.

Earlier in the year, while Rhona was deciding whether to allow Gus and Lucy to use her embryos, Marlon warned her that she might end up getting too close to her biological child.

And later, Rhona confirms her husband’s fears by admitting to him that she has become attached to Ivy as her own baby.

The tricky situation has become more complicated since Lucy’s death, with Ivy now without a mother figure in her life, and Rhona begs Marlon to help make this work within the family.

But what will Marlon do – will he be able to support his wife in what she desperately wants, or will this baby bombshell spell trouble for the couple?

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw previously revealed that things are set to get even more difficult for Rhona in 2024.

“In the new year, we’ll see Rhona pushed to breaking point – she’s forced to make a risky decision that threatens to affect her whole family and possibly change the dynamics of their family,” she said, speaking to Digital Spy and other media.

“As she’s pushed to the extreme, can she be talked round, or is she going to lose everything in the quest to help baby Ivy?”
